MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Communications Specialist in Houston, Texas
The primary purpose of this Senior Communications Specialist position is to develop, implement and manage projects for institutional communications, with a focus on the clinical enterprise, including patient communications, through news writing, reporting and editing; communications consulting services and strategic planning. This position tailors clinical operations messages to employee and patient audiences.
The ideal candidate will have experience in internal communications or patient/customer communications. Candidates will be able to write for a variety of audiences and demonstrate curiosity and love of learning.
Communications Program Strategies and Consulting
Successfully consults, develops, manages and measures communications projects for the clinical enterprise, including broad coverage of information that is timely and relevant to employees and patients.
Develops, implements and manages communications plans and products to advance our employees' ability to do their jobs and to explain processes and changes to patients.
This position contributes regularly to established news channels, virtual forums and web content.
The role includes collaboration with customers, Internal Communications members, as well as others in Institutional Affairs (e.g., designers, video services) to create print, online and broadcast materials.
Enhance Client Leadership Visibility
Implement, manage and maintain internal communications programs.
Routine collaboration with team members to share themes and communicate high-priority, institution-wide goals and activities, in coordination with the Program Director, Internal Communications.
Maintains online content to align with these programs. Collects and routinely reports project metrics.
Writing and Editing
Clear, consistent writing and editing in all work product.
Command of Associated Press style, as well as MD Anderson style.
Regular contributions to our employee and patient communications channels to share our programs and services through articles, emails, presentations, scripts and videos, slides, flyers or other materials .
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.
With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
