Senior Counselor - Pediatrics | Patient Care

MD Anderson is recruiting a nationally competitive Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to join the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The primary responsibility will be the provision of outpatient counseling through the ambulatory AYA center.

Our clinic serves adolescent and young adult patients through the age of 39 years. Cancer types vary widely in this population and patients are referred from adult clinics across the institution, as well as through the Children's Cancer Hospital.

The AYA Clinic is relatively young and is the outgrowth of an AYA program housed within the Children's Cancer Hospital. The Clinic's success has led to rapid growth and national prominence for its clinical and research excellence.

The incoming mental health professional will join a dynamic interdisciplinary team that consists of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, a psychological associate, and several others. Sub-specialty services included in this center revolve around the needs of AYAs who have a history of a cancer diagnosis, some of whom are currently engaged in active treatment. The presenting mental health concerns of this population vary, and the most frequently presenting concerns revolve around the adjustment processes incumbent with cancer diagnosis, treatment, and its sequelae.

In addition, a significant number of patients seek medical care at MD Anderson because of the novel clinical trials that may not be available in elsewhere.
