MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Educational Specialist in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY

The Senior Educational Specialist serves as a member of a team of professionals in the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) Grants & Contracts Administration office (GCA). This role is responsible for providing the direction, planning, and overall management of educational sessions and learning material focused on the administration of research. The incumbent will plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of professional and technical development programs. This role also provides valuable logistical support to communicate, coordinate, and schedule courses, seminars and other training events.

This individual is a part of the GCA Management Team and works closely and collaboratively with all GCA managers to ensure the success of their teams and overall GCA operations.

KEY FUNCTIONS

• Assesses training needs in consultation with management to develop the educational resources to accomplish the strategic goals of the department and Institution.

• Develops curriculum and training programs including educational material for learning sessions such as short educational videos, case studies, and summary checklists, on topics of research grant administration.

• Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates continuing education programs, skills training, leadership, and management development programs.

• Establishes schedule and coordinates implementation of classes through departmental and institutional platforms including the Education Center.

• Teaches virtual and in-person educational sessions, and supports participants in their learning experience by providing individual and curated learning assistance, including feedback, clarification, and follow-ups that serve the learning process.

• Performs all supervisory duties.

• Evaluates current procedures, policies and practices to develop and implement alternate methods designed for improvement of work.

• Remains current on educational theory and trends to introduce new methods of training.

• Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

• Keep up-to-date on sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and state and federal regulations, as well as internal processes and procedures.

• Take ownership of or support special projects; collaborate across GCA Management to understand key goals of projects and impact across MDACC units or departments.

• Collaborate with GCA Managers to ensure cross-functional processes and procedures are well-coordinated and seamlessly executed within GCA, identify and escalate operational challenges (transaction specific or GCA-wide) and potential solutions and maintain a 'one-office' mentality in order to provide excellent customer service and resolve complex issues related to sponsored programs management.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, Computer Science, Business or related discipline.

Required Experience:

Five years of curriculum development or project management experience in technology, business or health care (equivalent to the level of the MDACC Educational Specialist) and one year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience/Skills:

Research administration experience, communication/training experience, project management skills.
