MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Research Assistant - Genetics (Demultiplexing, Coding) in Houston, Texas
The Genetics department is a basic science department located in the George and Cynthia Mitchell Basic Sciences Research Building at the world-renowned University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. The focus is on advancing knowledge of the molecular genetic mechanisms that regulate normal and abnormal cellular processes.
The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out research projects in the institution's Advanced Technology Genomics Core.
The ideal candidate will have extensive molecular Biology experience, experience with high-throughput next-generation sequencing library preparation, computer experience with Laboratory Information Management systems, and excellent communication and customer service skills.

Key Functions
Expertise and Specialization
Apply molecular biology skills to perform Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation in the facility's NGS service.
Maintain detailed and well-organized records of protocols performed and results obtained.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
Operate NGS bench-top and high-throughput sequencers.
Perform instrument maintenance as scheduled and troubleshoot as required.
Perform pipeline analysis and distribute data.
Customer Service (Service Cores)
Follow Core guidelines regarding order processing.
Interact with client user groups and alert supervisor to problems/concerns.
Excellent customer service skills are essential.
Other Duties
- Cross-train in other ATGC services and serve as a service backup as required.

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Experience
Required: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
Preferred: Data demultiplexing and code writing.
