Senior Research Assistant

Summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Senior Research Assistant in Dr. Michael Wang's lab. This is a full-time, hands-on research position. We are looking for highly motivated colleagues who can perform and coordinate research projects with minimal guidance from faculty. Dr. Wang's lab is part of the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma, which is well funded through multiple funding mechanisms, including two NIH R01s and an R21, two CPRIT grants, and two Leukemia and Lymphoma Society grants.

Essential job functions:

Laboratory research

· Participate in scientific research projects and assist lab members with experiments.

· Compile, write, and submit experimental results to researchers in the lab and to supervisor.

· Maintain laboratory safety and laboratory equipment.

· Adjust and adapt laboratory equipment to obtain accurate research results.

· Communicate with external entities to schedule equipment service.

· Point of contact for critical alarms for laboratory equipment.

· Assist PI with management of laboratory emergency plan.

· Maintain lab safety records, prepare the lab for periodic safety inspections, and keep the lab chemical inventory up to date with institutional requirements.

Animal work:

· Maintain mouse colonies including breeding and genotyping. Perform minor surgeries and maintain patient-derived xenograft animal models.

· Lead in vivo experiments through planning and performing the appropriate treatments, health monitoring, data collection, and organization.

· Process and evaluate samples collected from mice.

In vitro :

· Maintain human cell line in vitro cultures.

· Perform in vitro culture work with sterile techniques.

· Generate cell lines from human and mouse tissues.

· Analyze cells using western blotting and flow cytometry.

Laboratory operations:

· Use laboratory knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve laboratory operational issues and report to supervisor and lab PI to resolve problem.

· Order lab supplies as required and work with lab members to manage lab supply inventories.

· Assist supervisor and lab PI with other lab and administrative work as required.

Education Required - Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience Required - Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience
