Research Data Collection and Documentation Processing

Reads and becomes familiar with protocol specific guidelines and general procedures for data management issues on research protocols. Assists in the development and maintenance of a system for collecting protocol data including but not limited Prometheus database. Enters protocol-specific data points into the appropriate database. Reviews data forms for completeness and updates missing information or issues queries to other staff as needed. Communicates research data revision requests to the physician and/or clinical research staff for correction. Trains other members of research staff on database utilization and management.

Protocol Administration Responsibilities

Assists with annual reviews, updates, and response data, and generates reports as requested. Attends Pharmaceutical Start-Up meetings with research staff to learn specific roles and scope of involvement in each trial. Reviews new protocols for data management requirements. Assists research team with data compilation and spreadsheet generation to aid physician with professional publications. Collaborates with physician, study team, and departmental protocol administration team to complete financial and regulatory tasks as assigned. Contributes to milestone logs of patient activity to assist in hospital account reconciliation and to facilitate compensation from sponsors of clinical trials as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

Sets up monitoring visits - Schedules the monitor visit and keeps track of all scheduled monitor appointments. Assembles and organizes materials (Case report forms, Shadow charts, etc.) for the monitor visits. Obtains security clearance for monitors prior to arrival at MDACC. Assist in retrieval of pathology slides/blocks and mail as specified in protocols. Assist in transportation of blood/tissue specimens between lab and clinic as needed by protocol. Manages minimal risk protocols independently. Performs protocol-specific tasks including screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens and study documentation of patient reported responses. Assists in development of laboratory manual and specimen handling, processing, and storage pathways. Collects, processes, stores, and ships blood, tissue, and other body fluid specimens according to institutional and protocol specific guidelines.


Minimum: $38,000 – Midpoint: $47,500 – Maximum: $57,000


Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree.


Required: Four years of related experience. May substitute required experience with completed years of college on a one to one basis.
