MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Research Scientist - Endocorine Neoplasia in Houston, Texas

1. Research Duties (75%) •Exercise considerable initiative in planning and executing the details of experiments and in evaluating and interpreting the results.

o Focus of the basic and translational research includes the regulation of growth, differentiation and survival of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells, the understanding of resistance of these cells to kinases inhibitors and immunotherapies, as well as the development of novel therapeutics.

o Utilization of technical experience that involves gene transfection, analysis of gene expression through qRT-PCR, microarrays, immunoblots, flow cytometry, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and tissue culture is required.

o Application of experience with xenografts and genetically-engineered animal models of cancer is required.

o Utilize CRISPR technology for gene editing and confocal microscopy for molecular imaging is preferred.

o Molecular biology techniques and analyzing and interpreting next generation sequencing datasets are required.

o Publish papers in the peer-reviewed literature describing your research.

•Function independently in the development and initiation of projects as well as support other lab personnel as required. Development of techniques, maintain standard operating procedures and ensure the quality and integrity of research procedures.

•Contribute to grant preparation and manuscript publication.

•Provides expertise, knowledge, or techniques to work problems.

•Compiles, writes and submits project results to investigator, presents data to professional groups.

•Performs experiments as directed by investigator within the timeframe specified.

•Perform all aspects of research in mice models.

•Maintains a clear record of all experimental work performed.

•Learn new skills for enhancing research.

2. General Laboratory Duties (10%) •Maintains and ensures lab safety, working knowledge and monitoring the use of laboratory equipment.

•Monitors and maintains tissue culture supplies and tissue culture station for efficient functioning.

•Attends lab safety courses as necessary, handles chemicals and reagents according to the safety guidelines.

•Maintain accurate animal surgery records and scientific protocols.

•Ensuring a clean and safe laboratory environment.

3. Training Duties (10%) •Selects key classified personnel, assigns and reviews work of subordinates, determines specific goals or objectives to be attained, evaluates resulting research data, and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.

•Plans and supervises the training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures. Responsible for the initial training and introduction of new personnel to the laboratory as related to proper tissue culture techniques and bio-safety

•Conducts close work with and instructs other students, technicians and staff members in scientific protocols currently used, and instructs in the use of equipment required to perform these protocols.

4. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) •Perform other duties as required

Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

Three years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
