MD Anderson Cancer Center Simulation Supervisor - TIPS Education Center in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

Supervises simulation technicians in the implementation of simulation and education laboratories, technology, and inventory. Oversees technical support for simulation delivery through the preparation and maintenance of equipment, media, computers, and materials related to simulation teaching, learning, and assessment. Responsible for audiovisual equipment operations, evaluation, support, maintenance and set-up, computer software support for simulation tools and resources used in the Simulation Education. Coordinates set-up, breakdown, and support of simulation experiences across the institute.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Simulation Services Supervisor Supervises staff and collaborates with the Associate Director, TIPS Education Center to ensure that education outcomes are optimal and best fit resources are utilized for best outcomes. Coordinates collaboration across teams and ensures that simulation initiatives and process utilize best practices. Creates a solution-oriented environment that is conducive to learning and encourages acceptance of new research, techniques, and technologies.

Models Service Excellence: Provides service to team and stakeholders in a safe, efficient, and professional manner to include:

Accountability: Applies expertise and commits to the highest level of service and takes responsibility for the result

Efficiency: Delivers seamless operation of systems and processes within defined timelines

Communication: Practices transparency in sharing and seeking information across teams to facilitate increased understanding and partnership with education team and stakeholders

Conducts daily observations of Simulation technicians' level of service, provides feedback and documents observations

Monitors productivity and quality standards in partnership with leadership operations and works to maintain team productivity and quality of work

Anticipates the needs of team and stakeholders and recommends ways to enhance service or work more efficiently

Works as point of contact with industry/vendors and facilitates collaboration across groups

Performs Simulation Technician functions when required

Keeps leadership apprised of emerging issues that could impact mission

Participates in education/simulation specific and organizational meetings as necessary

Technology/Resources Oversight Assures team acquires and maintains skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies in medical simulation.

Schedules diagnostics and maintains simulation and education equipment and to ensure operations are not impacted.

Programs software to model simulators' physiologic responses to instructor specifications.

Coordinates/supports/assists in role playing applications, prop placement, and moulage set-up to create simulated healthcare settings.

Maintains expertise in the operation of simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of scenarios and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions.

Assist in training Simulation Center Instructors and Faculty on processes, equipment, and self-scheduling of courses.

Assist in the development of quick-guides job aids for Simulation Center Instructors and Faculty.

Maintains inventory, par levels, and provides recommendations for budget and purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials related to simulation equipment, computers, computer programs, and supplies.

Additional Duties as Assigned

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Required: Four years of simulation technician or audio/visual equipment experience in healthcare, to include two years of lead/supervisory experience.
