MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Coordinator, Clinical Studies - Ahmed Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research in Houston, Texas

The Senior Clinical Studies/Patient Navigator position facilitates patient access to clinical trials and ongoing research studies in support of the interdepartmental research efforts of the Ahmed Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
The salary range is: min-$59,600, mid-$74,500 and max-$89,400.
I. Coordinates outreach for clinical trials and ongoing research studies associated with pancreatic cancer.
Works very closely with faculty, staff and patient access from the Gastrointestinal (GI) Clinic, as well as the Departments of GI Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Surgical Oncology to facilitate research protocol access and coordination of patient care within this context.
Documents patient calls/contact in OneConnect.
Acts as liaison between the patient and clinical trial opportunities. May interface with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to facilitate patient access.
Completes background information on study patients to include searching past medical records and recording detailed information such as past medical history, previous surgical interventions, chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatments, and con-med history.
Ensures that acquired background information is compiled appropriately and transferred to the electronic medical record system.
Takes responsibility for patients in long term follow-up on particular trials. To include conducting follow up phone calls or checks OneConnect for survival data on patients.
Coordinates with the clinics assuring patients are scheduled for follow up appointments and biospecimen collections.
Coordinates with administrative and research staff to facilitate biospecimen collections associated with clinical trials and/or research banking protocols.
If necessary, maintains communication with monitors and sponsors regarding the status of patients.
Resolves queries and issues related to research protocols.
II. Pancreas Program Interdepartmental Support
Ensures completion of GI Clinic monthly reports on outcomes metrics.
Maintains database for the Ahmed Center and GI protocols that accurately reflects protocol activity, outcomes, etc.
Meets weekly with Ahmed Center leadership and staff to review protocol activities.
Prepares reports as needed for principal investigators and/or Ahmed leadership.
Attends protocol initiation meetings as necessary for relevant studies and staff meetings as required to assist in resolving protocol issues.
May assist Ahmed leadership and GI Clinic administrative staff with data review and confirmation to ensure readiness for audits, both internal and external.
Assists in special projects as assigned.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration or related scientific field.
Required: Five years experience in area of research study or direct patient care obtained from nursing, data gathering or related field -OR- three years of required experience and two years experience as a Coordinator, Clinical Studies at M. D. Anderson. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Studies Coordinator experience is a plus.
