MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Engineer - Energy Projects in Houston, Texas
Ideal candidate will have experience independently developing, designing, and executing energy projects.
The Engineering and Building Systems Management (EBSM) Energy & Utility Programs team is seeking an engineering professional with strong background in energy audits, project scoping, and implementation of conservation measures. Energy conservation measures at MD Anderson are typically engineered and continuously commissioned by dedicated in-house energy professionals working closely with operations staff to assure long term success. This position will be dedicated to executing top payoff energy activity and reducing our utility expenses.
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Engineering position in EBSM is to provide a full range of strategic level energy support services related to collection and analysis of energy and utility consumption and benchmarking these trends against comparable institutions on a local, state and nation-wide basis. Provide tools for Facilities Management building operators to identify and diagnose energy waste on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. Analyze building systems performance and provide guidance to optimize building energy performance.
Assist with the development of energy master plans and design standards for the institution. Provide guidance to improve complex HVAC system performance. Assist in the development of the annual energy and utility budget and the administration of complex energy supply contracts. Evaluate and introduce new energy efficiency technologies for possible application to the institution.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Strategic Utility Management Support
Provide technical and programming support for the implementation and maintenance of EnergyCAP and other specialty energy and utility tracking and trending software.
Develop, maintain and publish energy and utility trending through the use of sub-metering and energy dashboards. Develop plans for the ongoing maintenance and calibration of institution owned sub-metering.
E nergy Supply Management
Support the Manager of Energy and Utility Programs with the development of the annual utility budget, building utility consumption forecasts, monthly accrual reports and ongoing budget variance analysis.
Assist in the development of utility contracts and implementation of a hedging strategy for the procurement of natural gas and electricity.
Strategic Energy Conservation Support
Provide guidance to improve HVAC system performance and propose BAS tools for monitoring energy and utility use.
Support implementation of energy conservation programs including providing review comments on design plans and specifications prepared by others.
Assist with the development of energy master plans, specifications and design standards for the institution.
Evaluate and introduce new energy efficiency technologies to the institution.
Other duties as assigned
Education Required: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field.
Experience Required: Six years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on the design of facility systems.
License/Certifications Required: Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas within 180 days of job entry.
Preferred: Master's Level Degree.
Experience in the supervision of other engineers and engineering technicians. Two or more years in a university, hospital or research facility. Five years of direct energy efficient HVAC design experience.
