The primary responsibility of the Senior Engineer position in Facilities Planning, Design and Construction is to provide mechanical and plumbing professional engineering services related to remodeling, renovation, new construction, and equipment replacement projects. The Senior Engineer is responsible for engineering design, project planning and scoping, preparation of plans and specifications for projects according to institutional standards, as well as, construction administration services to determine whether construction meets the design intent.
Mechanical and Plumbing Design Services Provides mechanical and plumbing design services in the development of construction bid documents including schematic design, design development, and construction drawings and technical specifications. Complies with applicable building codes and other regulatory requirements governing the provision of design services. Verifies and documents field conditions to coordinate new construction with existing conditions.
Budget/Timelines Adheres to man-hour budgets and design phase schedules developed by others in the delivery of engineering design services. Monitors actual manhour expenditures against budgeted manhours to measure personal performance. Monitors design phase milestone schedules against actual completion dates to measure personal performance. Refines and improves design processes for continuous quality improvements.
Construction Administration Reviews contractor submittals, requests for information, change proposals and other construction administration documents for design intent. Develops construction change proposals to correct design errors and omissions and to implement changes to the scope of work. Periodically observes the progress of projects during the construction phase for purposes of determining compliance with the contract documents.
Project Leader When assigned as design team leader, coordinates the activities of all the design disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) in an organized manner to provide for the efficient, cost effective delivery of departmental services and to eliminate design errors and omissions.
Required: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field. Eight years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on the design of facility systems. Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas.
