Cancer and its treatments can have lasting effects on daily performance including physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning. Rehabilitation Services offers physical therapy and occupational therapy for patients of all ages and with any type of cancer who are experiencing problems related to cancer or the side effects of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients at our main building in the Texas Medical Center and at our Houston Area Locations.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Patient Assessment

Assess patients’ needs by selecting and performing appropriate assessment protocols and procedures aligned with evidence based practice. Develop & revise interventions, programs as needed to achieve positive outcomes. Identify patient/family communication style. Seek alternate forms of communication with patients, family &/or staff when necessary.

Patient Treatment/Quality

Identify and initiate evidence based physical therapy interventions which result in improved/maintained patient functional status. Provide patient and family teaching and education. Demonstrates proficiency in ordering DME accurately and efficiently using the Maxsys system.

Patient Care Documentation

Maintains documentation in a complete, legible, coherent manner, using appropriate and approved grammar, spelling and abbreviations. Practices point of care documentation as appropriate. Maintains all documentation to meet regulatory billing compliance standards. Completes all documentation within departmental time frames. Includes patient charges in documentation according to communicated expectations and established guidelines.

Patient Care Workload

Meets or exceeds targets for volume of billable service. Effectively manages workload to balance completion of consults and treatments. Volunteers to assist others when caseload is low or patients are unavailable. Communicates effectively and proactively with peers and supervisors to meet workload demands. Adjusts schedule without cuing to meet workload demands.

Salary Range: $77,200 - $96,500 - $115,800

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree from accredited School of Physical Therapy.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of experience as a physical therapist.

Preferred: Experience in an acute care setting.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Required: Current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Texas issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR).
