MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr. Research Assistant - Genomic Medicine- Mice handling in Houston, Texas

The Sr. Research Assistant provides supervision, special training to technical personnel and/or highly technical work in medical and related research projects. Impacts laboratory research techniques, production and procedures.

The ideal candidate will provide technical assistance in carrying out various research projects. Impacts laboratory research activities of high volume mice colonies.

Salary range: Min $39,200 - Mid $49,000 - Max $58,800

Key Functions

  1. Performs daily animal care of nude mice and health flagging. Routine husbandry such as weaning, toe and tail docking etc. Ensures the ventilated cage rack system and automated drinking water system are operating correctly and reports alarms or malfunctions to supervisor immediately.

  2. Performs specialized procedures such as routine weaning and identification. Additional procedures may include IP and SQ injections cells and drugs.

  3. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of animal housing and ancillary areas.

  4. Records data in the appropriate hardcopy of electronic system. Ensure that data is entered in a timely manner. Ensures that the correct animal identification is placed on animals. Reports any discrepancies to the supervisor.

  5. Maintains environment cleanliness. Ensures supplies are adequately stocked.

  6. Employ safe laboratory practices.

  7. Participate in an integrated drug discovery research team.

  8. Performs other duties as required.

  9. Interacts closely with other research staff across institutional functional teams.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Preferred: Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Experience

Required: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.

Preferred: Mice handling experience.
