Coordination of Care

Manages resources available to facilitate informed consent process across a spectrum of treatment, interventional, and non-interventional trials. Verifies eligibility and provides feedback to physicians and multidisciplinary team regarding required screening activities and scheduling time constraints. Schedules patient tests, keeps patients informed about test results and studies. Act as liaison with patients, physicians and research staff in providing administrative and patient care services for the coordination of research studies. Tracks protocol related labs, responses and research tests. Monitors patients on chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and cell therapy treatment trials and communicates determination of dose delays and dose reductions based on hematological as well as clinical criteria to treatment team. Identify and address the educational, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patient and their families while participating on a clinical trial. Utilize the OneConnect system to make sure research charges are documented appropriately and that billing to sponsored study accounts is accurate.

Protocol Management

Maintains expert knowledge of adverse events and policies regarding reporting. Prepares and reviews necessary data for monitoring visits, audits, and safety summaries. Leads patient-update calls with sponsor. Collects and develops critical information for protocol submission and revisions. Coordinates FDA documentation including collecting, de-identifying, and submitting serious adverse event documentation to protocol sponsor and oversight groups such as the Investigational New Drug Office or Clinical Research Organization. If required for multi-center trials, maintain contact with other participating institutions and coordinate all data pertaining to such studies. Proficient in all databases associated with data capture for clinical trials.

Project Management

Trains Research Data Coordinators, Clinical Studies Coordinators, and Research Nurses. Delegates coordination of care and protocol management tasks to team members and oversees compliance. Divides up large projects between team members, evaluates individual work and overall completion process. Learns new institutional processes and trains and documents training for team and entire clinical research group.

Education/Team Orientation

Ensures the effectiveness of protocol related education for patient and multidisciplinary team members. Serves as preceptor/mentor/resource or performs supervisory functions as necessary. Proactively seeks out educational opportunities and presents findings to research staff. Participates in professional activities beyond the departmental level.

Communication/Respect

Uses proactive and effective communication skills in complex patient/research situations to achieve optimal resolutions. Serves as a single point-of-contact for all parties involved in the research process to establish an environment that fosters positive interpersonal relationships. Recognizes diversity in people and is sensitive to these characteristics in order to maximize outcomes.

SALARY RANGE

Minimum: $76,000 – Midpoint: $100,700 – Maximum: $125,300

EDUCATION

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years of registered nurse experience.

Preferred: Two years of research nurse experience.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN).
