MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Welcome Center Attendant in Houston, Texas

This is an evening/night shift position, 2p-11p Monday-Friday working one weekend a month. There may be a need to work other shifts as necessary. Healthcare experience preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Key Functions

  1. Provides patient information and directions to callers in a fast pace, high call volume environment (10 or more incoming telephone lines). Operates telecommunication integrated systems. Extracts information from various Institutional systems (e.g. CARE, Infinity). Operates multiple electronic devices and systems simultaneously.

  2. Possess strong analytical skills to efficiently and effectively utilize all institutional resources. The position requires the employee to identify confidentiality issues that may arise while providing information to customers while protecting the privacy of patients or employees. The employee must possess strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge of the institutional emergency plan, way finding, the policies and procedures of the Welcome Center and institutional policies and procedures. The employee is considered essential staff and must be prepared to participate as a member of the ride out and /or recovery team.

  4. Demonstrates strong verbal communication skills using proper grammar and diction. Proper enunciation of words must be utilized to ensure effective communication with individuals of different cultural backgrounds. The employee must possess strong listening skills and a pleasant demeanor. Must be able to accurately transcribe information to assist customers.

  5. Maintains a highly professional and positive attitude in a fast paced environment. Utilizes time in an efficient manner by completing duties as prescribed by the patient's needs. The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks concurrently.

  6. Activates the institutional emergency plan when needed. Processes calls when necessary to initiate codes within the institution.

  7. Processes Code Blue, and OR MERIT calls using Infinity software. Contacts all critical personnel during any type of code event.

  8. Sets up Bridge/Conference Calls.

  9. Performs multiple tasks concurrently in a fast paced environment and utilizes time in an efficient manner. Maintains a highly professional and positive attitude.

    EDUCATION

    Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Preferred: Associate's degree.

    EXPERIENCE

    Required: Five years of experience answering multiple telephone lines or responding to customer inquiries to include two years providing information to internal and external customers in a hospital setting.

    Preferred: Healthcare experience. Bilingual in Spanish/English.

    Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
