This full-time position is located within the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer Research Center at Science Park in Smithville, Texas.
Salary range: $31,200 (min) - $39,000 (mid) - $46,800 (max)

The primary purpose of the Senior Secretary is to perform complex secretarial duties requiring judgment within general guidelines and provide support to the Research Animal Support Facility (RASF) veterinarians, managers and supervisors to ensure the highest quality of veterinary care for Science Park.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
DATA PROCESSING AND FILE MAINTENANCE
Composes, formats, finalizes, compiles, processes and maintains data in various forms utilizing computer based systems. Updates numerous databases (population, change-outs, overcrowded, QA, animal usage, irradiator, etc). Organizes computer based records and accurately records the information into the computer based files. Maintains office files and responds to requests for files from supervisors and other sections. Maintain ACUF tracking system of timelines including renewals, annual reviews and expirations.
ANIMAL FACILITY COMPLIANCE AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT
Compiles, edits, collates, updates and keeps current copies of the animal facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) up-to-date (online and hardcopy) and orchestrates the tri-annual comprehensive revision of the facility SOP's in preparation for the accreditation site visit (AAALAC). Assists with schedule management of Animal Resource business office. Maintains log of campus IACUC research protocols. Provides alerts when usage is at 75% of approved animal number. Coordinates use of biological irradiator by research staff. Maintains training records associated with IACUC requirements. Schedules meetings on the web-based calendar. Records and generates minutes for monthly Animal Resource meetings i.e., CCSG's Quality Assurance (QA), Laboratory Animal Genetic Services (LAGS), and Research Histology, Pathology and Imaging (RHPI). Assists the Animal Resource Director and Associate Director with the E-ACUF system (CLICK) data mining inquiries to retrieve information necessary to provide oversight of regulatory requirements.
CLERICAL AND TIMEKEEPING
Generates daily, monthly, and quarterly reports, abstracts, memoranda, minutes, manuals and other documents using office programs, spreadsheet or database application programs. Maintains, orders and verifies orders of animal facility consumable supplies and standing orders. Responsible for weekly exception time reporting for Animal Resource staff into Kronos. Reviews and reconciles Kronos and WebCalender entries to verify the accuracy of the of hours worked and correctness of leave codes used. Opens, sorts and distributes mail. Maintains security sensitive Principal Investigator ACUF files secured in the Animal Resource Office. Generates reports, statements and other material from copy or rough draft. Fills in data on vouchers, purchase orders, requisitions, work order requests and other forms.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Technical School.
Experience: Two years experience performing responsible secretarial work.
Preferred Experience: Five years secretarial experience.
