MD Anderson Cancer Center Nurse Manager (Procedural) - West Houston in West Houston, Texas
MD Anderson is seeking a Nurse Manager (Procedural) in the West Houston location. The ideal candidate will have a BSN and at least three years of supervisory/management experience. Procedural experience in PACU, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and anesthesia is a plus. Must be able to work a varied day shift and administrative call as required.
Responsible for the daily operations of assigned Houston Area Location (HAL) which includes procedural services in areas such as the PACU, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and anesthesia. Responsible for physician and infusion template management, resource management and the delivery of patient care services in the HAL. Participates in strategic planning and represents the HAL in divisional and institutional arenas.
Collaborates with assigned location's faculty and staff and the local community to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and customer service. Ensures personnel's adherence to competencies, policies, procedures and guidelines. Manages staff performance and establishes and maintains processes which support the business operations of the HAL. Interacts with HAL and main campus colleagues to address issues and opportunities of common interest.
Ensures adherence to the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, institutional standards of care and policies and procedures and external regulatory agencies. Ensures that staff and HAL are compliant with external regulatory agency requirements (e.g.JC, HIPAA, Magnet etc.). Ensures maintenance of personnel records in compliance with Joint Commission and institutional requirements. Ensures single point of review is completed within defined timeframe. Monitors Center's aesthetics and functionality by collaborating with Facilities Management regarding property maintenance issues. Collaborates with PC NM/CAD in developing and updating policies and procedures. Coordinates personnel activities of the HAL including staff education, selection, counseling, and evaluation. Assumes responsibility for the recruitment of clinical nurses and clerical staff. Collaborates with CNM/CAD regarding hiring needs and decisions.
Demonstrates effective interviewing and employee selection skills to meet unit needs for specific skills, knowledge and diversity. Rigorously screens candidates and hires for performance potential. Ensures respective location's staff is appropriately cross-trained by assisting in the orientation of new staff as well as precepting nurses in PACU, Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, and Anesthesia. Addresses employee issues in a timely manner. Develops and maintains effective staffing plans. Ensures the provision of safe and effective patient care and business services.
Develops goals /objectives consistent with identified best practices and evaluates outcomes accordingly. Provides oversight of the triage and coordination of patient appointments between the HAL and main campus. Collaborates with the Patient Access Supervisor to ensure effective and efficient Business Center operations. Collaborates with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams within the practice and associated hospital, community practices and ancillary partners to accomplish mutual patient care access and delivery of care goals. Leads Center efforts to operationalize goals including implementation and evaluation of outcomes. Identifies and implements effective and innovative solutions to problems identified and develops opportunities and programs in partnership with faculty, PC NM and CAD.
Actively participates and proposes space planning/renovations based on data which supports the location's patient activity and programmatic initiatives. Serves as a professional role model and mentor. Effectively models role of leader as facilitator, coach, mentor and group leader. Demonstrates professional accountability by maintaining proficiency in assigned role and involvement in professional organizations. Seeks opportunities to broaden business perspective and knowledge. Assists with educational activities of visitors to the various areas of the HAL.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
Required: Five years of professional nursing experience with one year in cancer care. One year of supervisory experience in direct patient care activities.
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN).
